There’s More To It

Two kindergartners were asked “Why do you want to get married and what is the right age to get married?” The little boy said he wants to get married, “Because he can pick the girl and she don’t have to go home to her mom and dad anymore more.”
Haha… true, but there’s more to it than that. Right?
The little girl answered when the right age to get married is and she said, “84, because then you can just sit around, watch TV and tell each other how much your love each other.”
Hahah i guess that’s true, but we know that there’s more to it than that...
In tonight’s passage in John 2, we are going to see that there is so much more to this miracle than meets the eye. Join me as we read this passage
John 2:1–11 KJV 1900
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

1. The Invitation

a. Timing of the Invite

This is three days after Nathaneal and Phillips (and the other disciples) decided to follow Jesus.
This comes at a specific time for these men to begin to understand who they are following!

b. Results of the Invite

Jesus turned the water into wine.
BUT… don’t miss this!
WITHOUT INVITING JESUS IN, there wouldn’t have been a miracle.
WITHOUT OBEYING WHAT JESUS SAID, there woulnd’t have been a blessing.
Christian life must include: Inviting Him In, Listening to His Instructions, and like verse 5 says, Doing it.

c. The Lessons from the Invite

See above

2. The Insturctions

a. Reminder about His Purpose

My hour has not yet come.

b. Specific Instructions

Get those water pots.
Do something privately then do something publically.

3. The Implications

THis is a picture of:

a. Man’s Emptiness outside of Jesus

b. Salvation

c. It caused His Disciples to Believe in Him
